There may be some unintended consequences to drinking tea in the morning, depending on some variables.

Here are some things to think about:

Caffeine content

Caffeine is an ingredient in many teas, including oolong, green, and black teas. While small amounts of caffeine can give you a slight energy boost, large amounts can make you jittery, anxious, have palpitations, or have trouble falling asleep, especially if you’re sensitive to the drug.

Digestive issues

Especially for people with sensitive stomachs or those who are prone to acid reflux, drinking tea first thing in the morning on an empty stomach might occasionally cause digestive pain. Certain teas, such as green tea, can raise the production of stomach acid, which may exacerbate these problems.

Dehydration

While tea does include water, some varieties — especially those high in caffeine — have diuretic qualities that, if not balanced with enough water consumption, can result in increased urine production and even contribute to dehydration.

Staining teeth

Black tea and other dark-colored teas may eventually discolor teeth, especially if they are drunk frequently. Some people might not want to deal with this cosmetic issue.

Interactions with medications

Certain teas have ingredients that could interfere with some drugs’ absorption or effectiveness. Green tea, for example, has catechins that can obstruct the absorption of iron and several medicines. Seeking advice from a healthcare expert is imperative when uncertain about possible interactions.

Stimulation and anxiety

Having tea in the morning, especially strong tea types, can sometimes cause overstimulation, which can make you more anxious or restless during the day.

Tolerance and dependence

When people regularly drink caffeinated tea in the morning, they may develop tolerance and reliance to the point where they need more caffeine to get the same effects, or they may experience withdrawal symptoms when they try to cut back.

If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may wish to limit your intake of caffeine and choose decaffeinated or herbal teas to reduce any potential negative effects. Furthermore, pay attention to how your body responds to tea consumption and modify your routines accordingly. Individual tolerance and moderation are crucial when making any nutritional decision.
